The TSI Legacy Ball 2016 was organised in collaboration with City University Tamil Society for the second consecutive year. The occasion was held at the incredible Crystal Halls, Wembley, on Wednesday 23rd March, 2016. The event embraced and celebrated the talent of young sportsmen and women in the Tamil community. Individual and team awards were presented throughout the evening to highlight and reward the passion and contribution displayed in the Legacy League and Tournament.
The evening not only showcased the pride within individual Universities as players and teams were rewarded, but also displayed a strong unity among the Tamil student community. This was evident through the attendance of an incredible tally of over two-hundred. They were entertained was by the hilarious host duo from Imperial College, Dinesh and Jenan. The great music for the night was provided by Prestige, with a combination of music genres to accommodate the emotions of the occasion. Wings Restaurant served a mouth-watering three-course meal, while beverages was served by Crystal. All in all, a festive night was surely guaranteed.
The hosts conjured up amusement in the form of ‘TSI Take Me Out’ to involve the crowd. The game comprised of five female volunteers from the audience, judging the individual talents of male members from the audience. The lads may have proved their talents on the pitch, but it failed to mirror off it, as the judges were seemingly unimpressed. Last year’s League winning captain and Player of the Year, Jan Peranathan, presented the footballing awards, while former City captain, Shangavy Keetheswaran presented the netball awards. UCLSE grabbed three trophies, for their victory in the Legacy Football Tournament, as they lifted the trophy for the first time and denied city from a third consecutive win. However, their netball team was unable to mirror the feat as City took home the netball trophy for the second year running. One of the most anticipated awards were the title of Player of the season awards that was presented to Raj, who lead the charge for QM, scoring 14 goals on the run. The accolade was nonetheless overshadowed by City celebrating their first League title, after claiming the title on the final match-day against rival’s QM. This wrapped up the awards for the night and the dance floor was opened to allow everyone to end the amazing year in extraordinary fashion.
The night embraced upon the team-spirit and the competitiveness among the teams. It exemplified that the hard work and talent put into the season bears fruit as an incredible season comes to end.
