Being a Tamil student in British society, it would be easy to believe that academia was the only thing that we excel in, with our many other skills and talents being at times marginalised. However, TSI’s Raise Your Voice competition certainly put this myth to bed, allowing some of the finest up and coming Tamil musicians to step forward and shine. While a few of the performers are already beginning to gain great recognition, as a whole each artist is at the same level: young and with a lot to prove. Even from the offset, it was clear that each performer had one goal, that being to put on a show. With singers, rappers, and even spoken word poets, Raise Your Voice proved to be a true display of lyrical wordplay and melodic ballads. The competition ran with compelling energy and the audience were truly given a fantastic show, as each artist showcased their talent in their own unique manner. It was a night to remember, and we hope each performer has gone away from this event having taken another step in their path towards success.
